Oscars Fantasy League Results

WOW! What an awards night it is was. Rather than rehash all of the Matt Damon jokes, @Trump tweets, In Memoriam snubs and that major gaffe at the end, I am choosing to focus on the most important part for myself and a handful of friends……….bragging rights.

This is the fourth annual Oscars Fantasy League and with many returning players as well as one new one, we were given the opportunity to topple the reigning champion, Jeremiah Hinson of The Bullfrogs, in order to thwart his possible two-year win streak. The premise is simple: you’re given $300 to select a team of nominees that comes at or under your salary cap. Each nominee is assigned a value and on awards night there are bonus factors that could either help or hinder your score. The winner then gets to hold it over the others for the next year. If you want to take a look at the point values and bonus points breakdown, I have included those below.

This makes The Bullfrogs the first ever Oscars Fantasy League winner to win back-to-back years. He will have bragging rights for the entire year of 2017! Congratulations on a team well chosen. This was a simple year as far as outside points, movies jockeying for PR and votes, overall, it just felt lighter. Here’s hoping the films for the 2017 season are just as good as last year. Preparation for the 2017 Oscars Fantasy League starts NOW!

Some interesting stats from that evening:

  • Meryl Streep received a standing ovation (+25pts) despite not winning
  • Mahershala Ali was the MVP receiving (125pts) which was the Tier amount (50) coupled with the Tier Bonus (15×5). Clutch.
  • City of Stars, despite winning its category, broke even with 0pts because the winner was played off by music……IRONY.
  • This was the lowest year for bonus points ever tallied. There were no trips, only one wardrobe malfunction, and hardly any overly long speeches.
  • In an effort to win and not to help, Lousson Smith left Gaby high and dry on how to actually play the game, thus making her have the lowest score of the 8. SMH…
  • If you’re keeping score at home, the winner’s circle now include: Luke Walker (R.I.P.), Chris Flanagan, Jeremiah Hinson (x2)
